CBS News pays tribute to late Don Hewitt
NEW YORK — At the end, there were too many stories to keep television news pioneer Don Hewitt’s memorial service to 60 minutes.
CBS News held a memorial service for the “60 Minutes” creator, who died in August. It comes a month after CBS’s tribute to late longtime anchor Walter Cronkite.
Hewitt was eulogized as a quick and curious showman who never lost enthusiasm for his life and work. Colleagues said he was a sharp editor whose credo was “tell me a story.”
Correspondent Morley Safer says he and Mike Wallace had legendary arguments with Hewitt over stories, but his boss didn’t hold grudges for long.
