Shaq says Nash’s idea was different from his
BALTIMORE — Don’t call him the Big Rip-off: Shaquille O’Neal says ex-teammate Steve Nash’s idea for a TV show was “slightly different” from “Shaq VS.”
At an appearance Saturday to promote an upcoming episode in which he’ll swim against Olympic star Michael Phelps, O’Neal said: “Everyone in America has similar ideas. He had a similar idea.”
The Arizona Republic reported last week that Nash mentioned a “reality show he was pursuing” to O’Neal in 2008, while they were teammates with the Phoenix Suns.
O’Neal said Saturday Nash’s idea was about training with other athletes, not competing against them. O’Neal also noted that Nash is an executive producer on his ABC show.
Says O’Neal: “He’s the Canadian Aaron Spelling, and I’m the black Spielberg.”
