TV legend Norman Lear receives AARP service award

LAS VEGAS — Television legend Norman Lear has been awarded the AARP’s annual Andrus Award for service.

Lear received the award last week as part of AARP’s annual national event and expo, which was held in Las Vegas.

The honor was given to Lear for his achievements in socially transformative television, filmmaking, philanthropy and social activism.

The 87-year-old Lear is the creator of shows including “All in the Family,” ”Sanford & Son,” ”Maude,” and “Good Times.”

AARP CEO A. Barry Rand says Lear has made everyone look more closely at themselves and the society they live in and has challenged people to make life better for everyone.

The Andrus Award acknowledges those who have generated positive social change in the world.
