10^100 Project Announced Its Winner

SAN FRANSCISCO, (GaeaTimes.com)- The celebrated Google project, 10^100, finally announced the five winners on Friday. The project was drafted in 2008, with the mission to bring about a pleasant change in certain social issues. Google aimed to fund those five institutions or individuals, who could come up with the best ideas.

Two years of rigorous voting and contribution of more than 1,50,000 ideas from hundreds of individuals and institutions, 10^100 finally concluded on Friday with the announcements of five best ideas. The five winning ideas were- to make educational content accessible online for free; boost up science and engineering education amongst young people and technology leaders, make government more transparent by availing free accessibility to Primary legal documents on net, thus making the legal system more transparent; drive innovation in public transport to reduce pollution and other road hazards; provide quality education to African students at the graduation level, in the fields of science and technology, so that they can make a mark. The institutions who proposed these ideas are ‘Khan Academy’, “FIRST”, “Public.Resource.Org”, “Shweeb” and “African Institute for Mathematical Sciences” respectively.

“Khan Academy, an organization making online education in different fields available, was funded with $2 million. “FIRST”, that endorses science and maths education around the world received $3 million. “Public.Resource.Org”, got a fund of $2 million to fight for free online accessibility of legal documents. “Shweeb”, which is a new Urban Transport Concept, of covering short to medium distances with human powered vehicle on monorails, received $1 million for its execution. And lastly, “African Institute for Mathematical Sciences”, which is Cape Town based NGO, working for the provision of better science and maths education for the poor, yet competent African students, at graduation level, received $2 million.
