Colin Montgomerie clarifies Twitter ban

NEWPORT, Wales — Ian Poulter is back on Twitter. Just don’t expect him to reveal any Ryder Cup secrets.

European captain Colin Montgomerie wants to clarify the policy on using social media at Celtic Manor. He says players can use Twitter, as long as they respect the privacy of the team room and whatever else happens with his teammates.

Hours after Montgomerie and U.S. captain Corey Pavin said they didn’t want their players on Twitter, Poulter tweeted his more than 1 million followers explaining the policy. Poulter says he played seven holes and the course was awesome.

When asked about the matter on Tuesday, Montgomerie said he thought he was captain of a golf team, not a tweeting organization.
