Ananya Chatterjee Bags National Award

KOLKATA, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- In a development that can be interpreted as a boost for the lovers and makers of Bengali Cinema actress Ananya Chatterjee has bagged the National award for 2009 for her sterling performance in ‘Abohoman’. The film which released last year was directed by ace director Rituparno Ghosh. The results were declared on Wednesday and the director bagged the award for the best director. Two singers from Kolkata namely Nilanjana Sarkar and Rupam Islam also bagged the national award for the best female playback singer and the best male playback singer respectively.
For actress Ananya Chatterjee the award was almost unexpected and she was beside herself with delight when the news was out. She plays the role of an aspiring starlet in the film. The actress said that she is yet to recover from the initial excitement and feeling. She also said that after the film was released she was not much happy with her performance and had a feeling that she could have performed better. It was a really challenging role for her and she shared screen space with veteran actors like Mamata Shankar and Dipankar De among others. She said after the declaration of the awards that she is fortunate to get the role early in her career.
Actress Ananya Chatterjee is likely to get offers for meaty roles after this achievement. While she is hardly known among the viewers of mainstream Bengali movies this award will do the needful for her career. She expressed her gratitude towards the director as he allowed her to fit in the role and did not put many conditions on her.
