LOS ANGELES (GaeaTimes.com)- The much awaited TV movie The 19th Wife was aired by the Lifetime network the last night and the film was viewed by thousands of viewers who stayed glued to their TV sets. The film deals with the disputed subject of polygamy and narrates the life of the protagonist Jordan who is expelled by the Mormon Church. How he tries to help her mother who gets accused of murdering her spouse forms the crux of the story. This film is based on a novel of author David Ebershoff and exhibits the complex nature of human relation in a fast changing society.
The author of the novel The 19th Wife is disgruntled that the film adaptation of his writing has been changed in a major way and he has made his displeasure clear in a recent interview. The author is unhappy because the produces have shown the character of Jordan as a heterosexual while in the novel he is gay. That is why the character of his boyfriend has also been axed from the film along with the two dogs he owns. He said in a recent interview that he was told about this drastic change in the plot when the produces started filming though the exact reason was not conveyed to him.
The author of the novel The 19th Wife also said that he is not happy with the end result and has expressed his hope that the viewers would read his novel. The spokespersons of the network have not said much on the issue so far. However, similar things have happened earlier with a number of gay themed novels.
