Clint Eastwood declined James Bond

September 10, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): In a recently released report it has been revealed that Clint Eastwood was offered a chance to play the role of the MI6 super spy James Bond right after Sean Connery left the movie franchise. The 80-year-old actor/director was offered the role in 1969 when he was one of the most sought after Hollywood superstar. The actor declined the role of James Bond because he felt that it was “somebody else’s gig”.

After Clint Eastwood rejected the offer, the role landed in the lap of Australian model George Lazenby. Lazenby starred in only one James Bond film in “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”. George Lazenby was promptly replaced because the film’s audience did not like him playing the part of the British super spy.

Eastwood further added that he was offered a large sum of money to play James Bond onscreen. Eastwood said that his lawyer came with the offer to star in the film franchise saying, “They would love to have you.”

The octogenarian exclaimed, “But to me, well, that was somebody else’s gig. That’s Sean’s deal. It didn’t feel right for me to be doing it.” Clint Eastwood was also offered the role of America’s most famous superhero “Superman” in 1978, but at 48, the actor felt he was too old to don the superhero costume. Later the role of Superman went to Christopher Reeve who became a household name after the film came out. However the director/actor maintains that he would have refused the role even if he were 30 at the time of the movie.
