Feature: No tears in Bollywood despite half a dozen flops

September 6, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): As many as six films flopped in a matter of one single day but still not a single soul was heard complaining. Such was the insignificance of these films, most of them being stale, that their coming and going didn’t make any difference to the wonderful period that box office has been enjoying for the last few months. No wonder, let aside audience, even trade as well as industry didn’t moan one bit even as ‘Hello Darling’, ‘Aashayein’, ‘Madholal - Keep Walking’, ‘Antardwand’, ‘Soch Lo’ and ‘Gumshuda’ turned out to be box office debacles.
None of these films were star studded affairs either. John Abraham could have been the star face for ‘Aashayein’ but he too kept himself detached from the film. In fact it’s a surprise that the film still managed to nett 3 crores after a one week run as one didn’t expect this much from a film which had a sad theme, minimal promotion and stale look and feel. As for ‘Hello Darling’, it scored even lesser and vanished from theaters inside a week. All around poor reviews didn’t help its cause much.
On the other hand, even though ‘Antardwand’, ‘Madholal - Keep Walking’ and ‘Soch Lo’ were helped by some reviews, it was apparent that only critics saw the film. In fact even the combined collections of these films for an entire week were so embarrassingly low that there was a total no show for them in a week to follow. ‘Gumshuda’ saw a select release but didn’t find even a select set of audience.
However, there is nothing for movie buffs to panic here. Each of these films was a part of the backlog that was waiting to be disposed off for quite some time and it just happened that they all came in together. Coming weeks look mighty positive and the deficit, a minor one at that due to the flopping of these films, would be wiped off in a matter of one single day when a biggie arrives.
