Cammie King Conlon Dies Of Cancer At 76

FORT BRAGG (GaeaTimes.com)- Cammie King Conlon, who played the little girl named Bonnie Blue Butler in ‘Gone With The Wind’ passed away this Wednesday due to cancer. She was 76 years old and is survived by her son, daughter and three grandchildren. Though the actress did not appear in later movies, she enjoyed significant popularity over the years for her appearances in film festivals, anniversary screenings of ‘Gone With The Wind’ and also discussions on the film.

In ‘Gone With The Wind’, Cammie King Conlon’s role was a short one but an important one. Bonnie Blue Butler was the daughter of Scarlett O Hara and Rhett Butler, played by Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable. She was seen dying after falling from a pony. Cammie King Conlon has revealed in a later interview that a body double was used for her death scene. She described the body double as a little man who was 35 years old. She had also revealed that she was paid $1000 for the role that catapulted her to fame.

Cammie King Conlon has also worked with Walt Disney in the 1942 animated film ‘Bambi’. Apart from this, the actress stayed away from the limelight. She often said that she had peaked in show business at the age of 5. She also worked at the Mendocino Chamber of Commerce. Recently she released her book ‘Bonnie Blue Butler: A Gone With The Wind Memoir’. In an interview last year, she was asked about her role in the classic and she said that she did not have much to do as she was very young and was mainly instructed around.
