LAS VEGAS (GaeaTimes.com) — Miss Universe is a contest where you have to have a combination of both brain and beauty to win. But this theory is slowly loosing ground this year. Recently, the Miss Universe organization has come under fire regarding a topless photo shoot involving the contestants.

Photographer Fadil Berisha asked several of the contestants to pose topless and in body paint during the official photo shoot session. This has enraged quite a number of people all over the world. Angie Meyer, who has worked closely with the Miss USA contestants and the organization in past years has commented that-

When you bring nudity into the equation, the pageant no longer becomes about the entire package of brains and beauty. Rather, the focus shifts to body image. The notion that ‘beauty’ embodies absolute physical perfection is a frightening slippery slope, and quite dangerous for young women around the world to adhere to.

She has also said that, by asking these contestants to pose topless, the organization is trying to create a division among these candidates. This will put the applicants in an extremely compromising position.

But a representative from Trump organization (which, along with NBC, co-owns the Miss Universe Organization) has commented that they were not forcing anyone to pose topless. In fact everyone can opt for a more conservative shoot if they preferred. According to him, nudity was not an issue for many of the countries represented by the pageants. Those photos are a form of artistic expression for each contestant and the organization respects the contestants desire to pose topless or not. He has also declared that the broadcast will be family friendly and hence, will not be banned in countries where nudity could be in conflict with cultural values.

The grand finale of this years Miss Universe contest will be held in Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, Las Vegas on August 23.

What do you think? Should nudity be allowed in Miss Universe photo shoot? Or is it going to be a Playboy- esque masquerade? Will the honor of the crown be tainted due to this incident? Feel free to comment!

“The notion that ‘beauty’ embodies absolute physical perfection is a frightening slippery slope”??? Who said that was happening with them being topless any more than if they were in bathing suits or any other costume? Why are the critics telling lies? An ugly fat girl isn’t going to make it into the contest no matter how smart she is but a really beautiful airhead can certainly compete. In fact nude modeling in art classes and even porn requires less physical perfection than beauty pageants.
