August 3, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): The popular book Genius, the story of literary editor Max Perkins, stands a chance to be adapted as a cinematic creation for the silver screen. Bill Pohlad the well-known producer-financier of River Road Entertainment has plans to direct it and is in talks with famous Hollywood actor Sean Penn to rope him in to essay the character of Perkins.
The cinematic adaptation of the book is a long due project that has had links to producer Michael London and director Lawrence Kasdan. However, the project was kept on the shelf due to traction and monetary issues. Now, Pohlad and Penn are sure to shape it up into reality.
The duo, Penn and Poland, has a strong work history. Pohlad had produced and assisted the financing of Into the Wild, directed by Penn and released in 2007. Pohlad has been also an executive producer of Terrence Malick’s Tree of Life and Fair Game, a political thriller. Both are forthcoming films starring Penn.
Since 1990, Pohlad hasn’t directed a film though he had donned a director’s cap for some corporate pictures and documentaries before. He had directed Old Explorers starring Jose Ferrer and James Whitmore during the ‘90s.
