Bobby Hebb Passes Away At 72

NASHVILLE (GaeaTimes.com)- Bobby Hebb, the African American songwriter best known for his song “Sunny” breathed his last yesterday. The singer and songwriter was 72 years old. The singer died at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee after battling hard with lung cancer.

Bobby Hebb is survived by his daughter and four sisters. The family released a statement yesterday after the veteran singer’s death citing the cause of it. The singer was suffering from lung cancer for a long time and hence finally his body gave away. His fellow singers and fans expressed their condolence after the “Sunny” singer passed away. Bobby Hebb performed in a number of bands over the years and even once hogged the headline by featuring “The Beatles” final U.S. tour. However, Bobby Hebb is mostly remembered for penning down his wonderful song “Sunny”. The song was listed as the 18th most performed in the entire BMI catalog and according to 1990 chart released by BMI organization Bobby Hebb’s own performance of the song came second on the top charts of 1966. The song is remembered as Nashville towns eternal melody for every generations.

Bobby Hebb’s “Sunny” has been recorded by numerous artists like James Brown, Cher, Ella Fitzgerald, Jos Feliciano, Marvin Gaye, Wilson Pickett, Frank Sinatra and Dusty Springfield and every time this song has touched the listeners’ hearts. Bobby Hebb in one of his previous interviews said that his intention to write the song was to think of the happier times and looking for a brighter day in his life as his times were at a low tide. The song was written shortly after the assassination of U.S.President John F. Kennedy, same night when his elder brother Harold was killed.
