Walter Hawkins’ Funeral Held

OAKLAND (GaeaTimes.com)- The Paramount Theater in Oakland, California witnessed the presence of at least 2,000 people who were part of the memorial service of the celebrated gospel singer Walter Hawkins. The funeral service of the Grammy award-winning gospel singer, who became an ordained bishop in 1992, turned out to be a magnanimous event filled with music and celebration in which the fond memories of Walter Hawkins were rekindled. This was surely the most befitting manner to bid farewell to the legendary gospel singer who is known to have touched a lot of lives with his music.
The funeral service of Walter Hawkins, which was called the ‘Homegoing’ service by members of his family, was attended by as many as 150 pastors from all across the country who have gathered at the occasion to remember the life and the illustrious works of the deceased gospel singer. Pastor Steven Walker who came from Philadelphia to grace the occasion revealed that it was Walter Hawkins journey that gave him the inspiration to chose the path of God while emphasizing that he had to attend the funeral service as he wanted to participate in the celebration of the life of this great man.
Soon after the memorial service came to a conclusion on Wednesday afternoon, the casket carrying the body of Walter Hawkins made its way out of the Paramount Theater for his final journey to the burial ceremony which took place at an undisclosed cemetery in East Bay. Walter Hawkins breathed his last on July 11, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. The legendary gospel singer was 61 at the time of his demise.
