June 29, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Legendary Hollywood actress late Marilyn Monroe has high demand even after almost five decades of her death. Few days back, the iconic pink gown of the actress and singer was sold at USD 319,000. Now, it’s the turn of the X-Rays, which have gone for a huge amount of $45,000 in an auction.
In 1954, Monroe visited the Lebanon Hospital in Cedars, Los Angeles. At that time, the X-Rays of her chest and pelvis were taken. There were a set of three X-Rays of her chest taken during the visit.
On Sunday, Julien’s Auction in Las Vegas organized the auction. They expected the X-Rays to be sold at around $800 to 1,200 each. But to their surprise, the X-Rays fetched collectively a whopping $45,000 breaking all records. These were sold at more than 10 times the estimated amount.
The actress died in 1962 at the age of 36 because of drug overdose. Other items of Monroe included a prompt book from her incomplete film Something’s Got to Give as well as a bottle of her ‘Chanel perfume’. A chair used by Monroe during her last photo shoot was also sold at $35,000.
