LOS ANGELES (GaeaTimes.com)- This Friday, comedy movie lovers had a great time as the Adam Sandler starer “Grown Ups” hit the theaters. The critics and a number of film review sites have panned the movie which has been co-written by Adam Sandler and Fred Wolf but the box office verdict has been quite different. On its opening day, the movie raked in a whopping $14 million as it was able to create extensive hype among the viewers.

Apart from Adam Sandler, the other stars in the film are Salma Hayek, Kevin James, and Chris Rock, among others. It is expected that the film will gross close to $40 million this weekend. However, the movie may not dethrone ‘Toy Story 3″ from its position in the coming week. The latter movie has collected over $180 million in less than a fortnight. The Pixar film is likely to cross the $200 million mark easily. Adam Sandler written “Grown Ups,” however, easily beat the much touted Cameron Diaz-Tom Cruiser starrer “Knight and Day” as the action comedy flick staggered at $13.6 million. It is being expected that “Grown Ups” can touch the collection of “Click” the last big hit penned by Adam Sandler.

The comic story has got good response at the box office with its interesting storyline. It is based on yesteryear basketball players reuniting after 30 years. This time they bring their wives and families along with them and the ensemble cast presents a whacky mix up of situational farce and slapstick comedy. Adam Sandler may score another big box office success as it seems from the initial response to “Grown Ups.” However, content wise it is pretty much average, critics have stated.
