May 31, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Legendary actor and director, Clint Eastwood turns 80 today. Despite reaching the landmark age, he doesn’t want to celebrate it and wants to keep it quiet. He said that he stopped celebrating his birthday when he turned 70, insisting that he does not like pretending while opening a gift that it is just something he was looking for.
Eastwood has stopped his wife, Dina from celebrating his 80th birthday and said that he wants to keep it simple by just having a glass of wine.
Eastwood became famous for his portrayal of ‘The Man with No Name’ in Sergio Leone’s The Dollars trilogy of Spaghetti Westerns in the 1960s. At that time, actors like James Stuart and Henry Fonda were the popular western heroes, but Eastwood’s style began to emerge and developed into a new kind of character which was never seen before.
His other popular role was of hard edged police inspector Harry Callahan in Dirty Harry. It is undoubtedly Eastwood’s most memorable character and the film has been credited with inventing the "loose-cannon cop genre" that is copied till now. Apart from these quintessentially masculine roles, he has also done comic roles in the films like Every Which Way but Loose and Any Which Way You Can.
Clintwood has won numerous awards, including five ‘Academy Awards’ and he is also the oldest recipient of the Oscar for the Best Director at the age 74 for Unforgiven in 1992.
