Cowell’s Mum Throws Engagement Denial Into Doubt

SIMON COWELL’s mother has spoken of her joy over her son’s engagement - even though a representative for the AMERICAN IDOL judge dismissed the reports.
The music mogul sparked speculation he had proposed to Mezhgan Hussainy after she was snapped sporting a diamond band on her ring finger following an intimate Valentine’s Day date with Cowell last Sunday (14Feb10).
The Brit’s longtime publicist Max Clifford later insisted the stories were false - claiming he had spoken to Cowell and the star had denied asking for Hussainy’s hand in marriage.
However, Cowell’s mum, Julie, has thrown the denial into doubt after telling reporters she is “thrilled” about her 50 year old son’s plans to marry.
She allegedly tells Britain’s The Sun newspaper, “I’m delighted that he’s finally settled down. I feel as a mother, and like all parents do, that when their sons get to a certain age, particularly 50, we want to see them settled with a good woman. I could never really see Simon being committed like he is now.
“I’m so, so happy that Simon is getting married. I’m absolutely thrilled. He’s very contented with her. She’s a lovely woman and I’m delighted that he’s so happy. I thought I would have departed from this world before Simon got married. I’m so happy he’s committed to this girl. I think turning 50 made him realise it was time to get married and start a family. She’s perfect for him. She’s very beautiful and she’s got a lovely personality.”
