Nelson Mandela’s tale not easy to understand: Eastwood

LONDON - Veteran filmmaker Clint Eastwood says it was not easy to understand Nelson Mandela until a visit to his prison cell.
Femalefirst.co.uk reports, Clint’s new movie “Invictus” follows Mandela’s release from prison in 1990 and how in his first term as the South African President, he initiates a unique venture to unite the apartheid-torn land - he enlists the national rugby team on a mission to win the 1995 Rugby World Cup.
“It was when I visited his former cell at Robben Island that I realised what caliber this man has (Nelson Mandela). A little cell without a toilet and at daylight hammering stones or working in the mines,” said Eastwood.
“And what does this man do after nearly 28 years in jail? He comes out and talks about forgiveness. He is without a doubt one of the most incredible people on this earth,” he added.
Mandela served as president of South Africa, from 1994 to 1999, after his release from the jail.
“Invictus” stars Morgan Freeman as Mandela with Matt Damon.
