TV show crucial in Thanksgiving Day killings case

JUPITER, Fla. — It takes just a glimpse of someone on television to sometimes catch a fugitive.

That was the case recently when “America’s Most Wanted” aired a preview of an episode about a Florida man accused of killing four relatives at a Thanksgiving dinner. Owners of a remote Florida Keys motel saw a promo advertising the show and recognized the suspect as their guest.

Within a few hours, the popular Fox series had recorded its 1,099th capture since it hit the air in 1988.

With about 6 million viewers every Saturday night, authorities say the show is one of the most powerful law enforcement tools developed in the last 20 years.

It is directly linked to the capture of 17 people who were on the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted Fugitives list, including this most recent case.
