Vettaikaran: Terrible disappointment for Vijay fans
Banner: AVM Productions, Sun Pictures
Producer: M. Balasubramaniam and B. Gurunath Meiyappan
Starring: Vijay, Anushka Shetty, Salim Ghouse, Sri Hari, Sri Nath
Director: Babu Sivan
Music Director: Vijay Anthony
Alas! It’s a big letdown not merely for Vijay buffs, but for the ardent fans of music director Vijay Antony. The music director had delivered astounding chartbusters, ‘Naaka Mukka’, ‘Aathicchudi’ and more. But, ‘Vettaikaran’ has no such commendable tracks that are not worth listening to more than a time. ‘Vettaikaran’ has 6 tracks with none of them worthy heeding to.
Puli Urumudhu
Vocal: Ananthu, Mahesh Vinayagam
Lyrics: Kabilan
Here’s something you’ve got to observe properly about chorus part brimmed with tongue-twisting tricks- Odu Odu (Run Run) that turns to be ‘Vottu Podu’ (Cast your votes). Looks like Vijay Antony had to spend most of his time for this line. Well, there’s nothing much to appreciate about rest of quotients in the song. Be it lyrics or instrumentations, nothing seems to be impressive.
Chinna Thamarai
Vocal: Krish, Suchitra
Lyrics: Vivega
Vijay Antony has attempted for a sassy rap with erotic feel. But nothing seems to be perfect with unapt playback singers. Instead of Krish, Vijay could’ve opted for Benny Dayal and someone else who would’ve rendered the best part. Interludes with rap lyrics are quite impressive.
Naan Adichaa…
Vocal: Shankar Mahadevan
Lyrics: Kabilan
Pakka masala-kuthu song well-tailored for Vijay! Of course, this is one perfect pick of the album. The opening lines happen to be much comical and later Vijay’s ideologies are witnessed. The fast-pumping beats are sure to rock across the dance floors and it’s a grand fiesta for ‘Ilayathalapathy’ fans. The final verses will have Vijay’s son appearing on the screens.
Karigaalan
Vocal: Surchth, Sangeetha Rajeshwaran
Lyrics: Kabilan
Both vocalisms and instrumentations aren’t much impressive and there are no chances for this song to make it big across the charts.
Chinna Thamarai
Vocal: Krish, Suchitra
Lyrics: Vivega
The second version carries nothing different from the previous one. The repeated number has some extra fill-ins included here and there.
Ucchimanda
Vocal: Krishna Iyer, Shoba Shekar, Charulathamani, Shakthi Shree
Lyrics: Annamalai
The fast-beat folk song doesn’t boast of anything special apart from fast running chords on electric acoustic guitars. Actor Vijay’s mother Shoba Shekar has crooned the song along with Krishna Iyer and Shakthi Shree. Maybe, Vijay’s dance over the screens may make this song look interesting.
Finally, ‘Vettaikaran’ hasn’t got best numbers on overall. Apart from ‘Naan Adiccha’, none of the other songs have been tuned commendably. On whole, it’s a great letdown from Vijay and Vijay Antony, who earlier dazzled with ‘Sukran’ (Vijay Antony’s debut score).
Final Verdict: unimpressive on all parts.

2 songs are somewhat ok. no humming / hummable songs. I watched the film today. I was waiting for the dvd, but watched it in cinema theater and a big disappointment. nowadays, surya films / new director films are better than any vijay film. |

What an idiotic review this was!!!. All songs are sounds very good. Especially naan adicha, karigalan and puli urumudhu songs are very good. Chinna thamarai songs is also very. What we can expect above this in a movie? All songs are fresh and good. Please dont give false informations when reviewing. For ex. in puli urumudhu song, no one will think like pronouncing odu odu odu lines with votu podu. Quiet disappointing on seeing this kind of comments on review. |
