LONDON - A rare 64-year-old single malt whisky in a crystal decanter was auctioned for $460,000 in New York, it was reported here.
The Macallan malt and bespoke Lalique crystal decanter fetched the massive sum at the auction held to raise money for ‘charity: water’, the Daily Mail reported Wednesday.
The winning bid was made Monday evening by an unnamed woman.
The Sotheby’s sale was preceded by an international tour during which people were able to purchase 10 centilitre tasters of the malt.
“We have had a phenomenal response to this very special and rare decanter,” David Cox, director of Fine and Rare Whiskies for The Macallan, was quoted as saying.
“We are absolutely thrilled with the result which has smashed the world record for the most expensive whisky ever sold,” he added.
