SYLVESTER STALLONE, BRUCE WILLIS and ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER struggled to relax on the set of all-star action blockbuster THE EXPENDABLES - because they each feared they would ruin their crucial scene together.

The Rocky legend managed to convince his fellow Hollywood hardmen to appear in the new film, which also stars Mickey Rourke, Dolph Lundgren, Jason Statham and Jet Li, but the scene featuring the three action icons didn’t go quite as smoothly as planned.

Stallone tells the New York Post, “The thing is, that once we got on the set, everyone got nerves. We probably have 150 movies between us, but we were sitting there like amateurs. ‘Oh, my God. I don’t want to be the one that drops the ball.’ All this stuff is going through people’s minds.

“Finally, I said, ‘Here’s the deal. You be Bruce, you be Arnold, you be Sly. Let’s just be who we are.’ What you see there is everyone’s real personalities coming to the surface, and I think that’s why it works.”

And the big scene featuring Stallone, Willis and Schwarzenegger was so top secret, the rest of the cast and crew were kept guessing about who would appear and what would happen.

Co-star Terry Crews says, “There were rumours bouncing around the set. Then there was like a phalanx of Escalades (luxury cars). It’s like, ‘Here comes somebody.’”
