Octavia Nasr Sacked From CNN

Washington (GaeaTimes.com)- Octavia Nasr, the senior editor for Middle Eastern Affairs was sacked from her post yesterday after she published a statement on Twitter which created much buzz on the news channels, websites and also common people. Octavia Nasr said that she respected Grand Ayatollah Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah who died last Sunday. The former’s group is however, regarded as a Terrorist organization by U.S. and is committed to the destruction for the Israel. He also supported suicide bombings against Israelis.

The statement which created lot of controversies in the country was when Octavia Nasr wrote on Twitter that she was “Sad” to hear the passing of Sayyed Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah who according to her was one of Hezbollah’s giants and she respected him a lot. The editor had no idea that her statement would create so much of issues. Later, realizing her mistake she followed up her statement with a formal apology where she mentioned that her error of judgment because her statement conveyed that she supported Fadlallah’s life works. The editor gave reason as she used the words “sad” and “respect” because Sayyed Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah took a “contrarian” and “pioneering” stand among Shia clerics on women’s rights and have done various good deeds. However, she also said that she did not mean she respected him for what else he did or said.

Octavia Nasr’s explanation did not convince the CNN officials as they asked for her immediate resignation and fired her from her post. The senior vice president for CNN International Newsgathering, Parisa Khosravi said that she has a conversation with Octavia Nasr on Wednesday morning and the officials have decided that she would be leaving the company. The former senior editor was not found for any more comments.
