Stars arrive at MTV Movie Awards near Los Angeles

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. — Stars arriving at the MTV Movie Awards are ready to laugh.

Fans in the bleachers lining the red carpet outside the Gibson Amphitheatre welcomed famous faces with earsplitting cheers. “Celebrity Rehab” star Dr. Drew Pinsky proved as popular as “The Hills” stars Audrina Patridge and Stephanie Pratt, who described her dress as “the Rainbow Brite look.” Pratt said the movie awards are her favorite of the MTV shows.

“They’re just so funny,” she said. “It’s like a live comedy show.”

The fan-favorite ceremony, hosted by “Parks and Recreation” funnyman Aziz Ansari, will feature performances by Katy Perry, Snoop Dogg and Christina Aguilera, and never-before-seen footage from the forthcoming “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” and “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.” Presenters include Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz, Adam Sandler and Robert Pattinson.

Aguilera, dressed in a custom Versace gown accented with blinged-out chains, said on the red carpet that she will perform an “uptempo medley” for her longtime fans. And while many stars in attendance Sunday said they are excited for Aguilera’s performance, the pop star confessed she was most looking forward to seeing “Twilight” star Pattinson.

“I might be a little star-struck,” Aguilera said.

All eyes will be on Sandra Bullock when she accepts the MTV Generation Award in her first live televised appearance since she split with unfaithful husband Jesse James earlier this year. The 45-year-old actress has kept a low profile since James’ affair became public shortly after she won the Best Actress Oscar for her role in “The Blind Side” on March 7.

Bullock made a surprise appearance Saturday night at Spike TV’s “Guys Choice” event in Culver City, Calif., but that show won’t be broadcast until June 20. She received a standing ovation when she accepted the “Troops Choice” Award for Entertainer of The Year, from presenter Robert Downey, Jr. The award was voted on by members of the military.
