Director BILL CONDON has written an open letter to fans of the TWILIGHT movie series - insisting he is submerging himself in the vampire franchise to make sure the next film meets their expectations.

The Dreamgirls moviemaker will take charge of the fourth and final installment, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, making him the fourth director to tackle the bloodsucker series - following on from Catherine Hardwicke, Chris Weitz and David Slade.

Condon admits he is nervous about taking on such a high-profile project, based on Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling books, and has reached out to the franchise’s faithful fans to reassure them he is doing all he can to make sure the finale goes to plan.

In a note posted on his Facebook.com page, Condon writes, “I just want to say hello to all of you and let you know that I’m stoked to be getting underway on the adventure of making Breaking Dawn.

“I’m pretty busy bringing myself up to speed on what you already know by heart: I’ve read Breaking Dawn twice, re-watched Catherine’s and Chris’ movies 2-3 times each, have all four CDs playing in my car, and have Catherine’s notebook, Mark Cotta Vaz’s companion books, and even Volume 1 of the graphic novel here on my desk - a corner of my office is starting to look like (U.S. pop culture store) Hot Topic.

“I realise that this barely qualifies me for ‘newborn’ status in the universe you’ve been living inside for a few years now, but a guy’s gotta start somewhere.”
