Argentine leader CRISTINA FERNANDEZ has saluted directed JUAN JOSE CAMPANELLA’s surprise win at the Oscars, confessing she’s a big fan of his gripping film.
The moviemaker’s The Secret in Their Eyes beat Germany’s favourite The White Ribbon to claim the Best Foreign Film prize for Argentina at the 82nd Academy Awards on Sunday (07Mar10) - and the nation’s President couldn’t be prouder.
In a statement she says, “This is a fantastic movie that I saw twice and that had a real impact on me.”
It was Argentina’s fourth Oscar win.
Campanella’s film chronicles the activities of the Argentine Anti-communist Alliance, which has been linked to the deaths and disappearances of 1,500 people in the mid-1970s.
The Secret in Their Eyes (El secreto de sus ojos) swept the board at the Argentine Oscars last year (09) and also claimed top film prizes at the Goya Awards in Spain, and the Havana Film Festival in Cuba.
