Wyclef keeps Haiti in his heart amid Super Bowl
MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — Wyclef Jean may be in Miami to party for the Super Bowl — but the singer says he hasn’t forgotten about the disaster in his homeland of Haiti.
Jean, who runs the Yele Haiti charity and has worked to help the country since a devastating earthquake hit in January, says he knows the game’s festivities won’t stop. However, he says it’s incredible that the VIPs in Miami aren’t focused entirely on the revelry.
He says “somewhere in people’s head it’s like, ‘But let’s not forget Haiti.’”
Indeed, stars have spoken out about Haiti and helped raise funds for relief aid. On Friday night, Jean joined top celebrities like Diddy, Queen Latifah, Justin Bieber, Mary J. Blige and former President Bill Clinton for the BET “SOS Saving Ourselves — Help for Haiti” telethon and concert.
