Britain wins 5 International Emmys

NEW YORK — Julie Walters and Ben Whishaw are among five British winners of International Emmys.

Walters gets best actress honors for “A Short Stay in Switzerland,” portraying a doctor with an incurable disease who seeks assisted suicide. Whishaw takes home the best actor award for “Criminal Justice” about a young man accused of murder.

International Emmys in 10 categories were awarded Monday night. Brazil got its first-ever for the telenovela “India - A Love Story.”

Other winners include Denmark’s “The Protectors” for drama series, Germany’s “The Wolves of Berlin” for TV movie/miniseries, and Japan’s “Hoshi Shinichi’s Short Shorts” for comedy.

British TV host-producer David Frost got the honorary Founders Award for lifetime achievement.
