Pearl Jam Say Goodbye To Philadephia Venue In Style
By WENNTuesday, November 3, 2009
Rockers PEARL JAM became the latest act to close a fabled music venue on Halloween night (31Oct09) when they performed the final show at the Wachovia Spectrum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The group played four sold out nights at the Spectrum and closed the venue with a three hour-and-35-minute set.
The highlight of the show came during bass player Jeff Ament’s Kareem Abdul-Jabbar tribute Sweet Lew, during which frontman Eddie Vedder dribbled a basketball around the stage.
The marathon Halloween night set also featured tracks the band rarely plays live, including Pilate and a rendition of Crown of Thorns, which was originally recorded by pre-Pearl Jam band Mother Love Bone.
Vedder also introduced B-side Out Of My Mind by telling the audience a fan had offered to make a substantial charitable donation if the band performed the track.
The group also celebrated Halloween by dressing up as rockers Devo for a rendition of Whip It during the encore.
