The MTV Video Music Awards that took place on Sunday at the Radio City Hall will be written down as a mixed bag of event that comprised of Kayne West controversy, the weird outfit of Lady Gaga et.al. But what made the event so special was the glittering tribute paid to the king of pop, Michael Jackson, by his sister Janet Jackson who took the stage by a storm as she rendered their hit duet “Scream”.
It was a highly emotional moment at the MTV VMAs with the Jackson family looking on from the audience’s gallery as the sister Janet took on the stage. Before Janet’s swashbuckling tribute to her brother, it was Madonna who took the stage to deliver an emotional speech that was dedicated to her long term friend Michael. Madonna’s speech was welcomed with a standing ovation as the pop diva hailed the king of pop as the “one of the greatest”.
After Madonna finished her tribute, a pack of dancers took the stage to reenact the worldwide hit “Thriller”, while the song’s classic video was displayed on the giant screen. Inside sources revealed that Janet and the group of dancers were involved in hours of intense rehearsals to prepare for the subtle tribute to the king of pop. Soon after “Smooth Criminal” and “Bad” were played with the dancers performing along the track donning dresses similar to those that MJ used to wear.
Janet squeezed on to the stage as soon “Scream” was played, thereby paying a tribute to her brother, who will forever be remembered as the “brightest star of all”.

I saw the video this afternoon. I am so very proud of the Jackson Family and especially Janet. This must be so hard for them, for as she stated at the BET Awards, Michael was not an Icon to them, he was family. They are making such an effort to include Michael’s fans in this time of pain. My prays go out to them. |
