Rap superstar JAY-Z has paid tribute to late tennis champ ARTHUR ASHE by creating a limited edition T-shirt for charity to coincide with the U.S. Open.
The hip-hop entrepreneur, real name Shawn Carter, has shown off his eye for design with an all-black shirt featuring a white silhouette of a tennis player.
The one-off creation is currently being sold at the U.S. Open in Queens, New York for $36 (£24), with proceeds being split between the Arthur Ashe Endowment for the Defeat of AIDS and the United States Tennis Association National Junior Tennis and Learning Network.
And Ashe’s widow Jeanne Moutoussamy-Ashe is delighted to have Jay-Z involved in keeping her late husband’s memory alive.
She says “I am thrilled that someone of Jay-Z’s stature would take part in this project. This shirt will honour the legacy of my husband and remind people of his contributions to both the sport of tennis and this country’s underprivileged youth.”
Ashe, who won three Grand Slam titles during his career in the 1970s, died from complications from AIDS in 1993, aged 49.
