LONDON - Veteran actress Meryl Streep gained as much as 15 pounds while filming new movie “Julie and Julia”.

Accompanying Streep in the weight gain programme was her “Doubt” co-star Amy Adams. The two are coming together again in “Julie and Julia”, which is about well-known chef Julia Child and writer Julie Powell, and both the actresses admit the amount of food they had to eat for their roles wasn’t good for their waistlines, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

“I gained 15 pounds - I’m still trying to lose it! It was worth it,” said Streep.

Added Adams: “I ate a lot! Cooking is like love - it should be approached with abandon.”

The actresses were unable to escape gaining weight as director Nora Ephron had asked them to enjoy the food featured in the scenes.

Ephron revealed: “That’s one of the things I said in rehearsal. Everyone has to eat in the scenes, and everyone really went for it.”
