San Jose, Jan 15 (IANS/EFE) Mickey and Minnie Mouse arrived in Costa Rica aboard the cruise ship Disney Wonder which is on its maiden voyage into the Pacific Ocean from Florida to Los Angeles.
The vessel, which is 294 metres long and can carry up to 1,800 passengers, docked Friday morning at the port of Puntarenas on Costa Rica’s Pacific coast, coming from Panama, tourism officials said.
The Disney Wonder set sail Jan 6 from Port Canaveral, Florida, and stopped at several ports along the Atlantic coast. It crossed to the Pacific Ocean through the Panama Canal and will continue on its way to Los Angeles Saturday.
Costa Rican Tourism Minister Carlos Ricardo Benevides said in a statement that the country hails “the arrival of this cruise ship that will allow those families to enjoy our Pacific coast beaches, mountains and special adventures”.
The Disney fleet is composed of the twin ships - Disney Magic and Disney Wonder - which pay tribute to the bygone era of transatlantic steam ships that crossed the Atlantic Ocean, connecting the Americas with Europe.
