LONDON - British television soap opera EastEnders, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary year, has won six gongs at the Inside Soap Awards.

The BBC1 programme got the award for Best Soap, and Lacey Turner, who stars as Stacey Branning, got the fifth consecutive Best Actress win.

Branning’s former on-screen husband, played by Charlie Clements, scooped the gong for Best Exit, after falling to his death during the show’s live episode earlier this year.

The Sexiest Male award went to Scott Maslen, who plays Jack Branning, and who is also starring in this year’s Strictly Come Dancing competition.

“It’s an honour to win this. It’s voted for by the public, which I’m grateful for, but I do get ribbed by my friends for the sexiest male awards,” the Daily Mail quoted him as saying.

“When you’re 20, it’s fine, but I’m 40 next year. It’s all good if people think I’m sexy, but they wouldn’t if they saw me first thing in the morning,” he stated.

The Best Newcomer gong went to EastEnders’ Ricky Norwood for his role as Arthur ‘Fatboy’ Chubb.

EastEnders also won the award for Best Wedding for the turbulent and dramatic nuptials of Syed Masood, played by Marc Elliot, and Amira Shah, played by Preeya Kalidas. (ANI)
