Los Angeles (GaeaTimes.com) - When the soap opera “As the world turns” aired its final episode the world’s longest running TV show came to an end. The show ran for more than a half century. The show was telecasted for 54 long years.
The show was titled “The World Has Stopped Turning” in the finale episode which was 13,858th episode of the entire series. The last installment being an ending installment showed the problems of the characters almost being solved. Dr. Bob Hughes [Don Hastings] retired from the hospital. Casey [Billy Magnusson] left for the law school, Chris [Daniel Cosgrove] proposed to Katie [Terri Colombino]. Barbara [Colleen Zenk] dissolved her partnership with Paul [Roger Howarth] Lcinda [Elizabeth Hubbard] and John [Larry Bryggman] got back together. Janet [Julie Pinson] asked Jack [Michael Park] to be godfather to Lorenzo. Everyone was happy except Luke [Van Hansis] who lost Reid [Eric Sheffer Stevens] last week and finally said goodbye to Noah [Jake Silberman]
The show today aired was first aired on April 2, 1956 on the channel CBS in black and white form. It turned out to be a big hit in its next year. It ruled the daytime popularity charts for the next two decades. It was most watched out drama by 1958 to 1978. Everyday ten million viewers watched it. The show became colored on August 21, 1967. Then after some time its duration became one full hour in afternoon.
The show helped in building up many careers of some the biggest names in television and cinema world such as Martin Sheen, Dana Delaney, Lauryn Hill, Emmy Rossum, and Julianne Moore played step sisters on the show named Sabrina and Frannie Hughes. Another mentionable name is Parker Possy.
