New York (GaeaTimes.com) - History repeats itself. The clich now fits like a T in the present American Political scene. The Americans are back in the mood for protest against the fiscal policies of present American Govt. The movement commenced in 2009 via a chain of locally and nationally coordinated protests. The protests were partially in response to several Federal laws. Some of them are,
The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 is a law enacted in response to the subprime mortgage crisis authorizing the United States Secretary of the Treasury to spend up to US$700 billion to purchase distressed assets, especially mortgage-backed securities, and make capital injections into banks. This law has steered up rounds of protest in many political parties and new politicians.
The next law which has attracted protest is a chain of health care reform bills. The bill came into existence after the former bill of Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (known as the “Senate bill”), which became law on March 23, 2010 was amended into the series of health care reform bills which became a law on March 30. No Republican supported the bill.
Finally the third law which was the center of protests was the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2008. This law was established in February 2009 to create jobs during the period of global recession.
The above jobs have actually invited the wrath of common Americans for they have not done much for the economy and jobs of the common people. This has led the series of local and nationwide organized protests by the Americans. The protests are basically backed by the newer politicians who have come from smaller constituencies. Many posters and slogans have been used in the present protest taken from the 1773 era. The politicians backing the protest say that they will carry the protests to 2011.
The name has taken after the 1773 Boston Tea party movement. A famous American colonist protested against the oppressing fiscal policies imposed by the then British Govt. The name has been derived from act imposed with the purpose of monopolizing the tea trade in the American colony by the British Govt. by cutting down of re importing tax on East India Company.
