Al Pacino To Make Broadway Comeback

LOS ANGELES (GaeaTimes.com)- Highly acclaimed actor Al Pacino is all set to make a comeback to Broadway in a run of the “The Merchant of Venice” which is scheduled to commence its journey from the month of October. The Public Theater made the announcement on Monday that after the stupendous success that “The Merchant of Venice” has witnessed in New York’s Central Park, it would now be run at Broadway for a period of three-month beginning on October 19.

It has been reported that the Broadway shows, which would be directed by Daniel Sullivan, is scheduled for limited run which would span across 78 performances which would finally reach its conclusion on January 9. The anticipation regarding the Broadway shows starring Al Pacino is all the more high as this would the very first time since the year 2003 that the 70-year-old celebrated actor would be seen edging a Broadway role where he would play Shylock, the complex and often quite controversial Jewish character. Apart from the “Scent of a Woman” star, the other actors who would be edging the other pivotal role in the Broadway adaptation of “The Merchant of Venice” has not been confirmed as yet. The upcoming Broadway shows of “The Merchant of Venice” is going to be the first time since 1989 when the play featured Dustin Hoffman in the role of Shylock.

Meanwhile, the last time Al Pacino had made an appearance on Broadway was when he edged the character of King Herod in Oscar Wilde’s Salome in 2003. Earlier, the renowned actor had edged the title role of “Richard III” which was his last Shakespearean role on Broadway.
