“The Great Race” Aired On TCM

NEW YORK, (GaeaTimes.com)- TCM aired the epic slapstick comedy of 1965 “The Great Race” on Monday. “The Great Race” which has often been referred as the best slapstick movie of all time is the second movie after “It’s A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World” to be regarded as a masterpiece in its making. “The Great Race” offers unlimited laughs for one and all viewers.
One of the biggest attraction of the movie is it’s legendary sword fight scene and the hilarious pie-fight scene. “The Great Race” depicts one of the finest performances of Jack Lemmon who undoubtedly proves his worth as the most versatile actor of the 50’s era. “The Great Race” is set against the backdrop of New York City way back in the year of 1908 where the evil Professor Fate (Jack Lemmon) throws a challenge to The Great Leslie (Tony Curtis) for an automobile race from New York To Paris. At the starting line of the race, the professor sets booby traps for all competitors leaving out The Great Leslie and reporter Maggie DuBois (Natalie Wood).
In due course of the “The Great Race” the reporter’s car breaks down and she is picked up by The Great Leslie. Following that, Maggie Dubois is abducted by Professor Fate which makes the “The Great Race” continue further in France where Leslie proves his love for Maggie Dubois when he stops his car inches away from the finish line only to kiss her. Although Professor Fate wins the race he realizes that he could have never been the winner. He congratulates the lovers and all three head back to New York. “The Great Race” is one of the very best movies of Blake Edwards which still lies close to a viewer’s heart.
