Revered Louisiana music legend DR. JOHN took aim at British Petroleum bosses for wrecking the coastal areas of his beloved home state during a performance and chat session at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles on Monday (14Jun10).

The jazz pianist, real name Mac Rebennack, told fans he was sickened by the latest BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico - and insisted it isn’t the first time the company’s mistakes have caused huge environmental problems in the Gulf region.

Dr. John used his Grammy Museum appearance to attack BP and demand officials there are held accountable for the full extent of the 60-day catastrophe, which has now been ruled the worst environmental disaster in American history.

He said, “Let BP foot the bill (for the clean-up),” admitting he’s glad the public can now see the oil company’s bosses as locals in Louisiana have seen them for years.

He insisted the spill is just the latest as BP experts plunder the Gulf in a constant search for oil.

He added, “Nobody (outside Louisiana) heard about those (spills), because they weren’t as completely ridiculous as this one.”

On Wednesday (16Jun10), BP bosses pledged to invest $20 billion into the clean-up effort and to help put unemployed fishermen and restaurant staff back to work after the disaster.
