MUMBAI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Renowned director Mahesh Manjrekar who has been associated with meaningful movies, is hitting headlines lately with his latest presentation “City Of Gold“, which released in theaters across the country on Friday. Mahesh Manjrekar’s earlier works such as “Vaastav”, “Kurushetra,” among others is known to have highlighted the plight of the common man and his latest flick is no different for the kind of cinema that the audiences expect from him.

City Of Gold” features the state of the mill workers in the city of Mumbai who were robbed of their means of income when the mills were shut down in order to establish posh shopping malls around the 1980’s. Like all his previous directorial ventures, even in the recently released movie, Mahesh Manjrekar tells an extremely hard-hitting tale that keeps the viewers thinking even after the flick has long ended. The film “City Of Gold” focuses on a particular family whose source of income comes to an end with the closure of the mills and highlights the way the family struggles to be ensured of the basic amenities of life.

City Of Gold‘ is based on a play by Jayant Pawar and it is a bilingual flick with the Marathi version of the movie releasing just three weeks earlier. Although the movie does not boast of any leading names from Bollywood, it has been able to generate attention among the audiences with its rather unusual storyline. However, “City Of Gold” has not been able to win widespread accolades from the critics, many of whom have reiterated that the movie cannot be called one of Mahesh Manjrekar’s best works.
