USHER’s hit OMG took inspiration from an unusual place - the chart-topping track is based on chants by soccer fans.

The R&B superstar was convinced his song would be a hit in Europe after coming up with the chorus, which features cheering heard at soccer matches.

And he credits Black Eyed Peas star will.i.am, who raps on OMG, with helping him score a hit.

He says, “The chants were born in France and sampled by will.i.am but as soon as I heard them, I thought, ‘This sounds like an English football game.’

“To me the song sounded like the U.K. I had high hopes you guys (in Britain) would make the connection and you did. Working with will.i.am was an exciting process. He’s got this brand new sound and I knew as soon as I heard the record that we’d knocked everything else off the park. It sounds like nothing else out there.”
