LONDON - John Mayer has vowed to “clean up” his act and start all over again after stirring controversy with his offensive comments about his African-American fans and former girlfriend Jessica Simpson.

The singer courted trouble after using the ‘N’ word when talking about some of his followers and revealing intimate details about his sex life with Simpson in an interview with Playboy magazine.

The star later apologised for his remarks and was said to have burst into tears onstage in Tennessee.

He recently thanked the crowd at a concert in New York City for their support and pledged to begin again as a clean slate, according to MTV.com.

“I hate to come off like an a**hole ever, and thank you guys for believing that I am not an a**hole. Never, ever in my entire life did I ever think that it would be a good idea to be an a**hole,” the Daily Express quoted him as apparently saying.

“But you know what? There’s plenty of a**holes who think the same thing, so I have to thank you. It’s a clean me now, people, clean me,” he reportedly added. (ANI)
