Skier Patrik Jaerbyn has concussion after crash
WHISTLER, British Columbia — Patrik Jaerbyn turned in the air in a perilous crash during the Olympic super-G Friday, leaving the 40-year-old Swede with a concussion and bloody face.
Jaerbyn was taken to a Vancouver hospital and could be released by Saturday afternoon, Sweden team physician Per Liljeholm said..
Jaerbyn caught a gate near the end of his run and was thrown in the air before landing heavily on his back. He bounced on the icy surface and slid to a stop by the side of the course.
“There is no sign of any severe injury,” Liljeholm said. “He has a mild to moderate concussion and some scrapes on his face, but there is no sign of internal bleeding to the brain or elsewhere.”
Jaerbyn was the No. 29 starter in a tough race in which most racers had problems staying within the painted blue lines guiding the course.
