AMERICAN IDOL creator and SPICE GIRLS founder SIMON FULLER has confirmed he’s developing a West End stage musical based on the all-conquering girl group.

The former girl band, comprising of Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell, Melanie Brown and Melanie Chisholm, denied rumours last year (09) that they were planning a theatrical production based on their career and songs.

Chisholm said at the time, “No, no, no (we’re not doing it). I think it sounds like a great idea but at the moment we’ve got nothing in the pipeline.”

But now Fuller, who’s also the man behind American Idol, has announced he will be creating the show alongside Mamma Mia! film producer Judy Craymer.

Fuller says the girls are “very excited” about the project, adding, “What Judy has achieved with her all-conquering box office smash hit Mamma Mia! and what the Spice Girls created with their powerful record-breaking mix of girl power and hit songs, has influenced pop culture more than anyone can imagine.”

Craymer says she plans to “create a unique celebration of the band and its music, with its own flavour and joyful message… It is important to me that the excitement, style and humour of the Spice Girls is well represented on stage.”

The show has a working title, Viva Forever - taken from the band’s 1998 hit single.
