Boyle Breaks Chart Records In The U.s. As Her Dream Is Realised

Scottish singing sensation SUSAN BOYLE has stormed to the top of the U.S. album charts with stunning opening-week sales of over 700,000.
The talent show star became an unlikely YouTube.com hit after amazing Britain’s Got Talent judges with her rendition of I Dreamed A Dream at her audition - and now she has scored the best sales week for a 2009 release on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
I Dreamed A Dream has shifted 701,000 copies in its first week, beating Eminem’s Relapse by almost 100,000 copies.
AC/DC were the last act to break 700,000 sales in a week in October 2008, when their Black Ice debuted at number one with 784,000 albums bought.
Boyle broke Amazon.com pre-order records as fans clamoured to be among the first to get a copy of the much-anticipated album of covers.
And she also scores the best opening week for a debut female artist since SoundScan began tracking album sales in 1991, beating Ashanti for the title.
Only one other debut album has seen a bigger opening week - Snoop Dogg’s Doggystyle, which raced to the top of charts in 1993 with 803,000 sales.
Meanwhile, opera star Andrea Bocelli has kept hold of the number two spot on the new U.S. album chart with his Christmas album My Christmas and American Idol singer Adam Lambert debuts For Your Entertainment at three with impressive opening-week sales of 198,000 copies. Rihanna enters the chart at four with her fourth album, Rated R, and Lady GaGa rounds out the new top five with The Fame Monster.
Last week’s number one album, John Mayer’s Battle Studies, slides to 13 on the new countdown.
