LONDON - Singer Rihanna wants to use her celebrity status to help women who fall victim to domestic abuse, following her notorious bust-up with ex-boyfriend Chris Brown.

The pop star was thrust into the limelight following the February incident which left her battered and bruised at the hands of her former lover.

Rihanna kept completely quiet in the press as she recovered, but she’s now ready to use media attention to help other women caught in violent relationships, reported contactmusic.com.

“Domestic violence is a big secret. Its one of the things we (women) will hide, because its embarrassing. My story was broadcast all over the world for people to see, and they have followed every step of my recovery, she said.

The positive thing that has come out of my situation is that people can learn from that. I want to give as much insight as I can to young women, because I feel like I represent a voice that really isnt heard. Now I can help speak for those women, she added.
