Mackenzie Phillips: I Was Raped by Papa John; on Oprah Today

Mackenzie Phillips, eldest daughter of late John Philips (Mamas & the Papas leader) says in an interview with Oprah Winfrey today that she was raped by Papa John on the eve of her wedding.

Papa John’s original name is John Edmund Andrew Phillips. Papa John died on March 18, 2001. He was an American singer, guitarist, and songwriter. Papa John was a member and leader of the singing group The Mamas & the Papas. He is the father of Jeffrey Phillips, Mackenzie Phillips, Chynna Phillips, Tamerlane Phillips, and Bijou Phillips.

Oprah Winfrey summarized her feeling on Twitter with, “Interviewed One Day at a Time’s Mackenzie Phillips. Thought I’d heard it all…beyond shocking! We’re airing it Wednesday.”

Mackenzie Phillips is Papa John’s daughter with his first wife, Susan Adams. Mackenzie Phillips had drug-addiction as well as legal problems since her teenage years, problems that halted her promising acting career. Just last year she was arrested for cocaine possession at Los Angeles Intl. Airport.

She claims in her book that her father supplied her with drugs when she was a kid. She claims the incident occurred when she was just 19. According to her claims, her father showed up on the eve of her wedding, determined to stop it. She had “tons of pills” and so did her father. She passed out on her father’s bed. When she woke up that night from a blackout, Mackenzie Phillips found herself having sex with her own father, Papa John.
