Civil service officers most sought after grooms in India: Study

NEW DELHI - Civil service officers are the most sought after grooms in the Indian wedding bazaar, a study by the country’s leading online matrimonial site said Tuesday.
Conducted by Jeevansathi.com, the study showed that eligible men employed in the civil services (Indian Administrative Service, Indian Police Service and other allied services) receive the maximum number of marriage ‘initiates’ (marriage requests) on the site.
The survey showed that a civil servant received 12 percent more initiates than the second most preferred professionals, software development men, and 50 percent more initiates than the third preferred profession, bankers.
Women with jobs in human resource top the list of most preferred professions for Indian brides with 68.75 percent initiates on the site, followed by software professionals, television anchors, bank employees, healthcare crew and customer service professionals.
Information technology and banking professionals receive about 62 percent and 44 percent initiates while non-working women receive almost none.
The study has also revealed that working women are preferred as home-makers in arranged weddings, trends released by Jeevansathi.com revealed.
Men are seeking women who have steady low pressure jobs. So, while they want a working woman, at the same time they would prefer someone who can take care of their home. Women, on the other hand, seek both stability and stature which is why their families and they approach civil servants despite the transferable jobs, business head of Jeevansathi.com Rohit Manghnani said.
Professional, marketing and defence services came a close fourth and fifth positions in the popularity list of grooms, according to the study.
Even to this date, an IAS, IPS or IFS officer is considered as the most suitable match in case of arranged marriages. It could be because of the reputation and power these professionals hold, apart from the stability that these jobs offer, Manghnani said.
Jeevansathi.com, which provides online matrimonial services, enables users to create profiles on the site that allows prospective grooms and brides connect free of cost.
