Liza Minnelli Speaks On AIDS

NEW YORK (GaeaTimes.com)- Noted actress Liza Minnelli was spotted sharing the stage with some other actors and media persons in New York City’s Washington Square Park earlier this week. They came together to commemorate the World Aids Day which was celebrated on Wednesday all over the world. In the event, Liza Minnelli was accompanied by reputed model Tyson Beckford, designer Kenneth Cole as well as actress Stockard Channing. The actress told the attendees that she has a long association with the fight against AIDS. The celebrities present at the event said it was important to treat AIDS victims with care and compassion. They also stressed on the need to put an end to discrimination that they are often subjected to. The actress said she joined the battle against AIDS several years back when she came to know Rock Hudson, her fellow actor and friend was afflicted with the silent killer. The Oscar winner said that she finds it amazing that so many years have passed since she started her fight against the killer disease.

At the celebrities including actress Liza Minnelli said that they came together to give a message to the various health organizations and governments to spread awareness about AIDS. It is a sad reality that in spite of so many years of campaign, a lot of people living with AIDS feel afraid to seek treatment or counseling in the fear of stigma. Keith Powell, the famous “30 Rock” star recounted the moving story of an Ugandan man living with AIDS. He also said gay men with AIDS suffer the worst.

Liza Minnelli said in her speech that a cure for AIDS and the treatment of AIDS patients with equality are the need of the hour. She also spoke about spreading awareness among the underdeveloped segments of the society.
